- ਤੱਤਾ - Tattaa - twenty-first letter of the Gurmukhi alphabet.


Name: Tattaa
Shape:
Spelling: ਤੱਤਾ
Sound: 't' as the 't' in 'tap' but with the tongue further forward so that it touches the tips of your teeth
Type: Consonant

Mouth: Make a 't' shape with your tongue but instead of the front of your tongue touching the tooth ridge, make the tip of your tongue touch the tips of your teeth.
Tongue: Make the tip of your tongue touch the tips of your teeth.
Soft Palette: blocking nose
Lips: apart
Vocal Chords: Not used
Aspirated: no

Confusion: ਤ ੜ ਭ ਡ
Reading: ਤ, ਡ and ਭ can all be confused with each other although reading them isn't quite such an issue as remembering which one to write:
ਤ (Tattaa) has no loop;
ਡ (Diddaa) has the loop at the bottom; and,
ਭ (Bhabhaa) has the loop in the middle.
You have been warned. Another one to confuse this with when reading is ੜ (RdaRdaa)
Writing: ਤ, ਡ and ਭ can all be confused with each other although you soon get used to it:
