- ਘੱਗਾ - ghaggaa - ninth letter of the Gurmukhi alphabet.

Name: ghaggaa
Shape:
Spelling: ਘੱਗਾ
Sound: 'gh' as the 'gh' the words 'Birmingham' and 'aghast' when you say them out aloud.
Type: Consonant

Mouth: hold your mouth in exactly the same way that you would if you were saying the sound of the Roman alphabet letter 'k' or 'g' as in the 'g' at the end of the word 'sing'. Allow air to get past thus aspirating the sound to get the 'gh' sound
Tongue: Curved so that the middle of your tongue touches the top of your mouth roughly where your soft palette meats your hard palette. Allow air to get past to aspirate the sound.
Soft Palette: blocking nose
Lips: apart
Vocal Chords: Used. Note that this letter requires you to raise the pitch of your voice when you say the letter. This (ਘ) is equivalent to ਗ੍ਹ. See Other Bits for more details.
Aspirated: yes

Confusion: ਘ ਅ
Reading: ਘ and ਅ can be confused to start with but this is soon sorted out.
Writing: None
